Indian Competition Authority Opens Investigation into Google
According to The Times of India, Google is under investigation by yet another competition authority over alleged discriminatory practices relating to its AdWords business. The Competition Commission of India launched a probe to investigate whether Google “has abused its dominant market position by being discriminatory in allotting keywords to matrimonial site Bharatmatrimony.com.”
According to one senior official, “we found evidence that suggests that Google did abuse its dominant market position.”
This latest allegation adds to the growing list of investigations into Google’s abuse of dominance around the world.
As Bharatmatrimony.com wrote in its complaint the “increasing number of competition law complaints against Google globally suggests a pattern of anti-competitive conduct that needs to be checked in order to protect Indian businesses and consumers.”
