Congress Focuses on Google-ITA Software
It’s old news that over 30 state AGs and the Department of Justice are investigating Google’s conduct. But last Thursday, Congress joined the conversation. The House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Courts and Competition Policy heard testimony on Google, Apple and other companies’ roles in the “evolving digital marketplace.”
Tnooz commented that “Google has been on an acquisition tear in recent years, but there is precedent for Google withdrawing from a large deal under pressure… Still, the Google-ITA Software deal, in the throes of DOJ’s second request for information, is not yet a done deal.”
Google is increasingly becoming a target of focus for law enforcement officials and regulators. And as Tnooz reports, “There undoubtedly will be other developments before champagne bottles get popped.”
